Crafts receives Maine Social Worker of the Year award

AUGUSTA - Last week, The Maine Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) recognized Rep. Lydia Crafts, D-Newcastle, as Maine's Social Worker of the Year. Crafts was presented with the award at the NASW Maine 2023 Conference in Rockport, where she also gave the keynote address.

"Social workers improve quality of life for individuals and communities and are essential to improving the overall health of our state," said Crafts. "I am humbled by this recognition and honored that I get to work with social workers and advocates across the state."

NASW Maine recognized Crafts for her comprehensive and sustained efforts to improve social conditions and advocate for social workers and their patients across the state. Crafts sponsored and cosponsored several pieces of legislation this year to support social workers, including a bill to improve social work loan repayments and legislation to support social work licensing, school-based behavioral health services and practice conditions for social workers throughout Maine.

Rep. Crafts is serving her second term in the Maine House and represents Bristol, Damariscotta, Newcastle, Nobleboro and Monhegan Plantation. She is a member of the Legislatures Transportation Committee.
