AUGUSTA - A majority of the Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee voted last Thursday to move forward LD 603, An Act to Make Electric Breast Pumps More Accessible by Providing for MaineCare Reimbursement. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Kelly Noonan Murphy, D-Scarborough.
The bill would allow eligible MaineCare recipients to obtain electric breast pumps or supplies without prior authorization or limitations when prescribed or recommended by a physician.
"This legislation is about equity," said Murphy. "No new mothers should face barriers to accessing electric breast pumps because of their insurance. This bill will address existing inequities and ensure that all Maine women are able to provide their children with nutrition that they need."
The bill will move to the full Legislature for consideration in the coming weeks.
Murphy, a member of the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, is serving her first term in the Maine House and represents part of Scarborough.
