AUGUSTA – The Legislature's Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee unanimously advanced legislation on Wednesday proposed

by Rep. Parnell Terry, D-Gorham, that would provide funding for organizations that recruit retiring military members and their families to Maine, and offer support as they transition to civilian life.
LD 620 builds on the success of a pilot project within Maine’s Department of Economic and Community Development to support organizations recruiting retiring military members. The project was created through legislation enacted by the Legislature in 2022 with an initial spending total of $200,000 that the new measure makes permanent moving forward.
“I am proud to sponsor this legislation to help recruit newly retired servicemembers and their families who would like to lay down roots in our incredible state,” said Terry. “In addition to sharing the unparalleled work ethic and sense of grit that Mainers are so well known for, these dedicated individuals can be connected with Maine businesses that are experiencing workforce shortages, making the measure a win-win for us all.”
After receiving unanimous, bipartisan approval in committee, the bill faces further votes in the full House and Senate.
Rep. Terry is serving his first term in the Maine House and represents part of Gorham.
