Cloutier named House chair of Legislature’s Taxation Committee

Rep. Kristen Cloutier

AUGUSTA – Rep. Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, has been appointed to serve as House chair of the Legislature’s Taxation Committee. She will also serve as a member of the Appropriations and Financial Affairs Committee.

“As House chair of the Taxation Committee, my mission is to help create a fairer tax structure that provides more relief to those who need it most,” said Cloutier. “The previous Legislature took some important steps to provide targeted property tax relief for older Mainers and give additional relief to working families through a new state child tax credit. I’m looking forward to continuing to find ways to put money back into the pockets of Mainers.”

Cloutier, who has served on both committees previously, was appointed chair by House Speaker Ryan Fecteau. The Taxation Committee oversees the Bureau of Revenue Services and the State Board of Property Tax Review, as well as legislation related to taxpayer relief programs, property valuation and assessment and municipal revenue sharing. The Appropriations committee is responsible for creating the state’s budget.

Cloutier is serving her fourth term in the Maine House and represents House District 94, which includes part of her hometown of Lewiston. She served as the Assistant Majority Leader during the 131st Legislature.
