Berry releases statement on CMP worker bonus disparities

AUGUSTA - Rep. Seth Berry, D-Bowdoinham, House chair of the Legislature's Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee, issued the following statement in response to Central Maine Powers decision regarding frontline worker bonuses:

"CMP workers are the ones working on the front lines during Maines frequent outages. To give them only a fraction of the bonuses paid to management is just one more reminder of all thats wrong with distant, for-profit ownership of our electrical grid.

In my upcoming proposal to replace CMP and Versant with the nonprofit Pine Tree Power Company, workers jobs and benefits are protected and they receive a 10% retention bonus over the first two years. Workers also have a seat on the board of directors. If we value our electricity and our clean energy future, we need to value the workers who make it possible."

Berry represents House District 55: Bowdoin, Bowdoinham, Swan Island and most of Richmond. He previously served from 2006-2014, the final two years as House majority leader, and returned to the House in 2016.
