Beck honored with Edie Beaulieu Award for advocacy on behalf of Maine workers

AUGUSTA - The Maine AFL-CIO has honored Rep. Matthew Beck, D-South Portland, with the Edie Beaulieu Award for Outstanding Service to Maine Workers.

"I'm proud to receive this recognition from Maine's labor unions," said Beck. "I look forward to working with my legislative colleagues to continue to make things better for working people and their families across our state."

Edie Beaulieu was the first female House chair of the Legislature's Labor Committee, a Portland legislator who served five terms in the Maine House of Representatives and a mother of four who swept floors for the Portland Press Herald to help support her family. The award in her honor has been given for decades to hard-working and dedicated legislators who have provided outstanding service to their constituents, to workers and to the people of Maine.

Beck is serving his first term in the Maine House, having won a special election in March. Beck previously served as an IBEW 1837 steward and chief steward at WGME-TV, and he has been active with the Maine AFL-CIO and Southern Maine Labor Council for many years.

The Maine AFL-CIO is a state federation of over 160 local labor unions representing over 40,000 workers and retirees across Maine. The organization is dedicated to representing the interests of working people at both the state and local level.
