Bailey to introduce bond proposal to fund U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities in Bangor and Portland

AUGUSTA - Rep. Kyle Bailey, D-Gorham, will introduce a $14,000,000 bond proposal to construct a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility at the Portland International Jetport that will enable international commercial passenger service. The bond proposal will also fund a temperature-controlled, U. S. Customs and Border Protection warehouse at the Bangor International Airport to allow international cargo service.

"The pandemic has hit us all extremely hard," said Bailey. "This one-time investment will support the post-pandemic recovery not only for the airports themselves, but for other industries including tourism, hospitality and the local businesses that bolster these regions. It will open up new international business opportunities for the State and more generally improve our air transportation system."
