Gatekeeper Training

In suicide prevention, a gatekeeper refers to someone who:

  • Knows basic information about suicide
  • Believes that suicide can be prevented
  • Learns basic suicide intervention skills
  • Has the confidence to respond
  • Can assist in the aftermath of a suicide

Gatekeepers are the "safety net" for vulnerable youth and for students seeking help for their friends.  They can be teachers, counselors, ministers, youth workers, parents, or anyone willing to attend a one day training offered by the Maine Youth Suicide Prevention Program.

Find a training near you on the MainePreventionCalendar.org or download the 2008-2009 Training Brochure (PDF)

Or if you have a minimum of 15 people interested in an on-site training for your school or organization, contact Linda Williams at 622-7566 ext. 243 or fill out our Request for Information Form.
