Public NOTICE: APPLICATION FOR NEW LICENSE FOR HYDROELECTRIC POWER PROJECT

The State of Maine hereby provides notice that F & B Wood Corp., has filed an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for a new hydroelectric power generation license (5-MW exemption) for the existing Corriveau Hydroelectric Project (FERC Docket number P-12629-000) (Corriveau Project). 

 

Project description:

The Corriveau Project is located on the Swift River, near the town of Mexico, Oxford County, Maine, and consists of the following existing facilities: (1) the 1500-foot-long by 9-foot-high dam; (2) a 2 acre reservoir (3) a 125 long in-take channel; (4) a powerhouse containing three generating units with total installed generating capacity of 350 kilowatts (kW); and (5) appurtenant facilities.  The restored project would have an average annual generation of 1,306,900 kilowatt-hours.  The applicant owns the dam and existing project facilities.   A copy of the application and other related documents filed with FERC are available for review: 1) on-line at http://www.ferc.gov using the “eLibrary link” (enter the docket number excluding the last three digits in the docket number field to access the document); and 2) at the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), 28 Tyson Drive – Ray Building, Augusta, ME 04333.         

 

Intervention; comments to FERC:

The deadline for filing motions to intervene and protests with FERC is May 19, 2006.  All documents (original and eight copies) should be filed with: Magalie R. Salas, Secretary, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20426.  Motions to intervene, comments and protests must be filed in accordance with FERC’s procedural rules.  See 18 CFR 385.2001 – 385.2005.  Filings may be made electronically via the Internet.  See CFR 385.2001 (a)(1)(iii) and the instructions on the Commission's web site (http://www.ferc.gov) under the "eFiling" link.

 

Procedural schedule:

FERC established the following review schedule, which is subject to revision by FERC as appropriate.  In July 2006, FERC staff proposes to issue a NOI of availability of its Environmental Assessment (EA), with a 30 day public comment period.  Following notice and consideration of comments received, FERC staff will make the application ready for decision by the Commission in September 2006.

The State has established a website  [http://www.maineenergyinfo.com/spo/hydro/hydrointro.html]  as its primary means of providing project status information and identifying contacts at state agencies participating in the FERC process to whom members of the public may wish to submit comments regarding requirements that state agencies may be placing upon the license applicant and the plans, studies, terms and conditions they are recommending to FERC for inclusion in the license.  Interested parties may wish to consult this website to identify project status and public participation opportunities.
