About Local Government Cooperation in Maine

Maine faces 21st Century challenges; a changing economy, an aging population, and, by 2012, labor force shortages. We want to meet these challenges without losing what makes our state so special. Regionalization can help cut costs and lower taxes, while providing excellent services and growing our economy. It requires vision, planning, listening, and experimentation.

Communities around the state are collaborating to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and enhance services. This site contains information about the progress achieved by others. It offers resources to help local officials begin collaborative efforts. Finally, it presents the writings of some of the best minds that have been involved with these issues.

The creativity and commitment of Maine people will produce solutions to meet the challenges ahead.
