Waste Management & Recycling ProgramMaine Recycles Week
Maine Recycles Week 2009 Maine Recycles Week 2009 has come and gone and the Steering Committee would like to thank those that took part championing recycling efforts in schools, offices, businesses, and homes. We look forward to and encourage you to tell us about your experiences during Maine Recycles Week. For example in Waterville, Ross Nason of KVCOG reported success in the special showing of the thought provoking movie "Stuff" and in Machias, Meghan Duff of the University of Maine at Machias described how students and faculty got together to support the Bay Area Transfer Station. As always, receiving poster entries is challenging and rewarding for the MRW Steering Committee. Please remember:
Thanks to our sponsors!Maine Recycles Week does not happen without the support of our fine sponsors. In less than a month of our asking for support for Maine Recycles Week, our dedicated sponsors rise to show their commitment to recycling in Maine. Remember that we should never pass up an opportunity to recycle or to buy recycled. The Maine Recycles week steering committee would like to ask each of you to support our wonderful sponsors. Please visit our list of sponsors to familiarize yourself with their products and services. Contact UsMake Maine Recycles Week a part of your recycling promotion. The November 8th - 15th event was created to allow Maine communities to recognize America Recycles Day, November 15th, on local terms at the local level. At the same time, the day is an opportunity to raise the public awareness about recycling on the state level to hopefully reach our goal of a 50% statewide recycling rate. Advertising and outreach tools are available on the Maine Recycles site. Under the school section of the MRW site, teachers can find rules and guidance for reporting in the school and poster competitions. Please check out each section for suggestions and guidance. Throughout the year, you are invited to contact the State Planning Office, Waste Management and Recycing Program, for assistance with recycling program planning, problems, and promotion. Please contact Bruce White by e-mailing Bruce.White@maine.gov or 1-800-662-4545 (direct line, 207-287-8053).
