April 2009 Retail Sales

Total taxable retail sales in April 2009 were down 9.4% from April 2008, and 8.5% lower year to date compared to the same period last year. Sales from Food Stores remained positive for the fourth month of 2009. April Building Supply sales were down 16.2% from April 2008 and 18.8% compared to the same time period a year ago. Auto Transportation experienced the steepest drop this April at -16.6%.
