Maine Retail Sales Reports & Data Files

May Retail Sales

Maine total retail sales in May 2008 were the same as in May 2007. Year-to-date total sales increased 1% over the same period last year. For the month, the Other Retail, Restaurant, and Lodging sectors reported increases, respectively, of 9%, 4%, and 9%. Growth in these sectors offset lower sales in the Building Supply and Auto Transportation Sectors which were both 4% lower than last year. May sales were likely increased by the distribution of income tax reimbursements from the federal government as part of the national economic stimulus package.
