Program Description- written by Passport Learning If problems with reading have dampened your own, or your child's passion for learning, you've come to the right place. Passport Learning® introduces a revolutionary program that can improve reading and math skills! Students have shown improvements in reading comprehension by as many as 2.5 grade levels! Slow learners or reading delayed children have taken leaps in their reading comprehension skills. Passport Learning is a reading program available through your computer. If you do not have a computer, Passport Learning will provide one for you. Our patented technology accurately pinpoints weaknesses in reading skills and provides a personalized program of instruction for improvement. It is this ability to define and target individual problems that sets us apart from other reading improvement programs, and makes our success rate so high. Students are motivated to keep practicing the skills through verbal interaction with a variety of cartoon characters included in the computer program. Students print out special achievement citations each time they reach a new level of performance. Our staff is with you every step of the way. Our instructors have college degrees and teacher certification, as well as a combined 50 years of classroom experience. They are assisted by an able team of paraprofessionals, who have met our rigorous standards. All of our staff has received intensive training in reading intervention and is continually monitoring research into the exciting field of helping students with reading difficulties. Our program has received many awards including the U.S. JTPA Presidential Award for Outstanding Training Program, the Orton Dyslexia Society Award, the Canadian Council for Exceptional Children Award, and the Al Maresh Award from the International Corrections. Wellington High School students improved 1.25 grades on word recognition score tests, with less than 10 hours of training on the program. Humble Middle School regular education students achieved reading comprehension gains of over 1 year (where previous gains averaged .41 to .45 years) while special education students acquired gains in reading comprehension skills three times the rate of previous years. Socioeconomically disadvantaged students on the Passport program for 17 hours resulted in an average gain of 2.4 grade levels.
