Program Description – written by Educate Online

Educate Online offers live, individualized, at home tutoring through its easy-to-use online classroom. Educate Online is unique because it provides direct instruction using special technology that allows the student and instructor to have a two-way verbal dialogue using a special headset connected to the computer. The student and instructor also communicate by typing and writing (using a mouse) questions/answers to each other, which are displayed on both computer screens. The experience mirrors instruction that takes place while sitting together in the same room. Students access the program on a personal computer and Internet connection provided by Educate Online at no charge to the family (one computer per household). When students successfully complete the program, they get to keep their computer!

Parents choose their child's schedule which generally includes 2-4, 60-minute sessions per week. Educate Online is appropriate for students in grades 3-12 who are functioning at instructional levels 3-9. Educate Online's research based program uses individualized Instruction and mastery learning techniques to improve students' reading or math skills.

Educate Online presently employs 700+ teachers nationwide and is prepared to scale to meet increased demand. All Educate Online instructors are state-certified teachers, have at least two years of teaching experience, and complete comprehensive training.

The effectiveness of Educate Online instruction is measured by evaluating the skills students have mastered during the program. Students achieve mastery by scoring a minimum of 80% on three independent skill assessments. Educate Online assesses our impact by analyzing pre- and post-program performance on a nationally recognized standardized assessment, the California Achievement Test (CAT). Upon program completion, Educate Online students achieve an average grade level gain of 1 year in reading or math.
