Key Information for Superintendents and Principals of Schools Identified as Continuous Improment Priority SchoolsYear Two of Not Meeting AYPIdentification Status- CIPS Needs Improvement Year 1 The School is identified as a Continuous Improvement Priority School- Year 1. Parents must be notified of the school's status and informed that they have the option to transfer their children to a higher performing school in the district. Transportation for students who transfer is paid for with federal funds. In approving transfers, priority is given to the lowest performing low-income students in that school. The school must spend not less than 10% of its Title 1 funds for the purpose of providing to the school's teachers and principal high qua1ity professional development. That professional development must directly address the academic achievement problems that caused the school to be identified for school improvement. The plan must specify how the funds will be used to remove the school from school improvement status. To accomplish this, schools must identify the specific areas that need improvement and work with parents, teachers, and Maine Department of Education Distinguished Educators and other Department personnel to review the district's Comprehensive Education Plan, and through the analysis of the district's data, develop a two-year plan to raise student achievement |
