Maine Department of Education Regulation - Maine Learning Results: Parameters for Essential Instruction (effective October 22, 2007)

THE GUIDING PRINCIPLES – The knowledge and skills described in the Maine Department of Education Regulation 132 support Maine students in achieving the goals established in Maine’s Guiding Principles.

The Guiding Principles state that each Maine student must leave school as:

  1. A clear and effective communicator;
  2. A self-directed and lifelong learner;
  3. A creative and practical problem solver;
  4. A responsible and involved citizen; and
  5. An integrative and informed thinker.

Supporting Materials. The Maine Department of Education is developing several tools to support deeper understanding of the revised Maine Learning Results: Parameters for Essential Instruction. Each Content Area resource page includes material addressing the Learning Results revision process, changes in structure and content specific to each Content Area's standards, and potential considerations for implementing the revised standards.

Introduction to the Maine Learning Results* provides an overview of the Learning Results, as well as general information covering the revision process, changes in standards, and potential cross-content connections. Complete narration notes for the presentation are also available, in PDF or RTF (text only) formats.
