Welcome to the HIV Prevention Education Program’s web page!  This site contains lists of trainings, resources/interests, links and much more. This is your one stop place for HIV prevention information.

HIV infections have risen in Maine and the impact continues to be among young adults.  One out of every three new HIV infections in Maine is among those under 35 years of age, one out of every two nationally.  The HIV Prevention Education Program at the Department of Education continues to provide annual training and technical assistance to school administrative units and youth serving agencies on the issues surrounding HIV.  Maine school administrative districts have responded to the HIV epidemic by providing a high level of HIV prevention education at the middle and high school levels (without a state mandate!).  Ninety-eight percent of these schools provide HIV education.
