Foreign Exchange Students vs Foreign (or Non-Maine) Tuition Students

Foreign Exchange student attends school under an exchange program -- there is no tuition charge to the student/parent.
Note: Superintendent must approve the acceptance of a foreign exchange student.

Foreign Tuition student attends a school in Maine -- the student/parent pays tuition to the school administrative unit.

Reporting in MEDMS / Infinite Campus Student Information System:

Foreign Exchange Students

  1. Host family lives in the school unit that the high school is located. The student is considered a resident of the school administrative unit.
    • Fiscal Responsibility would be "Resident of School Unit" -- the resident unit would receive the subsidy count and the attending unit would receive the attending count.
    • Resident Town would be "Municipality of Host Family".
    • Resident SAU would be "SAU of Host Family".
  2. Host family lives in the school unit that has no high school but the host school pays tuition to the school administrative unit in which the attending school is located. The student is considered a resident of the host school administrative unit.
    • Fiscal Responsibility would be "Paid by Resident SAU or EUT" -- the resident unit would receive the subsidy count and the attending unit would receive the attending count.
    • Resident Town would be "Municipality of Host Family".
    • Resident SAU would be "SAU of Host Family".
  3. Host family lives in the school unit that has no high school and the superintendent of the attending school administrative unit accepts the foreign exchange student free of charge.
    • Fiscal Responsibility would be "Superintendent Agreement" -- the attending unit would receive the subsidy count and the attending unit would receive the attending count.
    • Resident Town would be "Municipality of Host Family".
    • Resident SAU would be "SAU of Host Family".

Foreign Tuition (or Non-Maine) Students

  1. Student is from another State or Country and the student or student's parent/guardian pays tuition to a school administrative unit to attend a school in Maine.
    • Fiscal Responsibility would be "Paid by Other Source" -- no subsidy count and the attending unit would receive the attending count.
    • Resident Town would be "Non-Maine Town".
    • Resident SAU would be "Non-Maine SAU".
