NUMBER OF REFUGEE CHILDREN TO BENEFIT: 946
Refugee Count is based on data collected during 2001-2002 (EFI-283).
An additional $ 25,000 was allocated for the Lewiston Public Schools under an emergency clause in the Maine Department of Education’s application to the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement.
Six eligible school districts have not applied for a grant award, affecting an additional 17 refugee children. Funds for those children were re-distributed for new refugee arrivals at Portland.
