INFORMATIONAL LETTER: 116
TO: Superintendents of Schools FROM: Susan A. Gendron, Commissioner DATE: June 15, 2007 RE: 96th Annual Maine School Superintendents’ Conference I’m looking forward to seeing you in Bar Harbor. Earlier this spring, members of the Department met with members of the Maine School Management Association’s Professional Development Committee to solicit input on the agenda. The two requests I received were: to create a balance between updates and new learning opportunities; and for a dynamic speaker who would provide an inspirational session. In recent days, I’ve had several requests to alter the agenda to include more time for planning and discussing the recently enacted law on reorganization. I want to honor this request and that of the Professional Development Committee. Thus, I’ve cancelled the session originally scheduled with David Silvernail and scheduled an additional session on reorganization for that time slot. At the end of Monday, I will determine if additional time is needed on Tuesday to continue the discussion on reorganization. If teams of individuals wish to meet during the Professional Networking time on Monday, Department staff, Norm Higgins and Ray Poulin will be available to meet with you for reorganization discussions. If you haven’t registered to attend the Superintendent’s Conference, we strongly encourage you to do so. We can accept your registration if received at the Department by Tuesday, June 19th. Please contact Juanita Deschambault at 624-6627 or juanita.deschambault@maine.gov if you need registration materials or more information.
