INFORMATIONAL LETTER: 95
TO: Superintendents of Schools, Assistant Superintendents of Schools, and Principals FROM: Susan A. Gendron, Commissioner DATE: April 9, 2007 RE: New England Troops to Teachers Program - Informational Recruitment Video Link This is a reminder that the Maine Department of Education entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the New England Troops to Teachers Office of the University of Maine System. Under this agreement, the Maine Department of Education, with the assistance of the New England Troops to Teachers Office, facilitates the certification of Troops to Teachers participants as teachers in Maine public schools, and assists in the marketing of the Troops to Teachers program to the Maine education communities. Our Certification Office provides counseling and guidance to Troops to Teachers applicants and conducts transcript evaluations in relation to the certification requirements and programs of the State of Maine. Mark Cyr, Certification Specialist, has been assigned to facilitate the counseling and certification processes for Troops to Teachers applicants. The following link is to a short informational video on the national Troops to Teachers website. It contains valuable information which could prove useful to you during this time of year when recruitment efforts are underway to fill positions in your district: Specific questions can be addressed to Mark Cyr in the Department of Education’s Certification Office (207-624-6855 / mark.cyr@maine.gov ) or to Ken McCann, the Regional Coordinator for the Northern New England Troops to Teachers program (1-888-463-6488 / kenneth.mccann@maine.edu ).
