RE:                 Schedule of Public Information Sessions on the Local Schools, Regional Support Initiative

Governor Baldacci and I are holding several regional forums in the coming two weeks.  I am hoping that this will afford you, your local school boards, and community members opportunities to engage in questions regarding the proposed restructuring plan.  All members of the public are invited to the following forums:

  • Wednesday, January 24, 7:00 p.m., Lewiston Middle School/Auditorium (Governor & Commissioner)
  • Thursday, January 25, 7:00 p.m., Noble High School, North Berwick (Commissioner)
  • Friday, January 26, 7:00 p.m., Deering High School/Cafeteria, Portland (Governor & Commissioner)
  • Tuesday, January 30, 7:00 p.m., United Technologies Center, Bangor (Governor & Commissioner)

The originally planned meeting for February 7, 2007 has been changed to accommodate information sessions prior to the expedited public hearing scheduled by the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs for February 5, 2007.  The hearing on the education restructuring bills will meet at the Augusta Civic Center at 9:00 a.m.  I am coordinating plans with the chairs of the Education Committee regarding the process leading up to the hearing, and I am planning an interactive broadcast next week that will include more detailed information and allow viewers to have questions answered ahead of the February 5th legislative hearing.

I will update you as quickly as possible with additional information about the process and about other opportunities for your input and dialogue.
