RE: Comprehensive School Health Education Grant Application

The Maine Department of Education is pleased to announce the availability of grants to enhance comprehensive health education curriculum, instruction and assessment, linked to the Maine Learning Results. The grants provide funding for three consecutive years at $2,000 per year. These grants are made available to schools through funding from the Maine Bureau of Health, Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant; the Maine Department of Education; and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health (CFDA#93.938, Improving the Health, Education, and Well-Being of Young People Through Coordinated School Health Programs, March 1, 2006 February 28, 2007).

In addition to funding, this project provides schools with valuable resources, professional development, and technical assistance to improve their health education instruction and student assessment. Quality health education enhances both student well-being and learning and is a core academic subject in Maine.

The grant application is enclosed. Please note that it must be postmarked no later than April 14, 2006.
