SUBJECT: Rule on vision and hearing screening in schools
The Department of Education is promulgating rules for screening of vision and hearing in school. The proposed rule provides parameters for vision and hearing screening by defining the grade level when screening must occur, the types of screening required, and the referral criteria. The rule also recommends screening tools.
A public hearing on this rule, Chapter 45, is scheduled for Thursday, February 9, 2006 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Burton Cross Building in Augusta, room 500. Written comments will be accepted until 5:00 PM, Monday, February 20, 2006. The proposed rule can be found at http://www.maine.gov/education/rulechanges.htm.
