INFORMATIONAL LETTER: 24

POLICY CODE: JF

TO: Superintendent of Schools

Private School Administrators

FROM: Susan A. Gendron, Commissioner

DATE: August 17, 2004

SUBJECT: Advance Notice of Student Data Requirements

The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires states to identify graduation data, dropout data and aggregate daily attendance and membership by ethnicity and gender as well as in following four sub-groups:

o       Migrant Education students

o        Limited English Proficient students

o        Students with Disabilities

o        Economically Disadvantaged students (Free & Reduced Lunch)

In order to meet these federal requirements, the Department of Education will be modifying the 2004-05 Fall School Statistic Report (EF-M-40), the 2003-04 Report of Public/Selected Private School System Part II Dropouts (EF-M-35A) and the Report of Public/Selected Private School System for Year Ending June 30, 2005 (EF-M-35).

The 2004-05 Fall School Statistic Report (EF-M-40) and the 2003-04 Report of Public/Selected Private School System Part II Dropouts (EF-M-35A) will be modified to include the four sub-groups and will become web-based reports. More information will be provided on these two reports in September.

The Report of Public/Selected Private School System for Year Ending June 30, 2005 (EF-M-35) will be eliminated and replaced by the new web-based Aggregated Attendance and Aggregated Membership report that you recently completed. The web-based report will be modified to include ethnicity, gender, the four sub-groups, required secondary data and the number of days in the school year.

If you have questions regarding the four new sub-groups, please contact Jackie Soychak at (207) 624-6734 or email jacqueline.soychak@maine.gov .

If you have questions regarding the student data reports, please contact Patrick Dow at (207) 624-6790 or email patrick.dow@maine.gov .
