The Maine Department of Education and the Maine Association of School Nurses invite school nurses across the State to attend the School Nurse Summer Institute at Colby College in Waterville, August 11 13, 2003. The Institute provides an opportunity for continuing education to improve school nurse practice. Among the topics covered are legal issues for school nurses, obesity in the school-aged child, trauma, bioterrorism, aggressive behavior problems and wellness for staff. Speakers include both State and Nationally recognized experts. Please encourage your school nurses to attend this important conference.

The New School Nurse Orientation will be August 13, 2003. The Orientation is for new school nurses or nurses who have not attended an Orientation session in the past.

National School Nurse Day is May 7th. The Maine Department of Education would like to recognize the critical role school nurses play in promoting the health of students. Healthy students will be better learners. We encourage you to take the time to acknowledge the many ways that your school nurses assist in making schools a better place for students.
