RE:                   Regulations – Maine’s Learning Results

Enclosed with this Informational Letter are copies of our “Regulations for the Implementation of the System of Learning Results”, Chapter 125 Basic School Approval Standards:  Public Schools and School Administrative Units; and Chapter 127 Instructional Program, Assessment, and Diploma Requirements – A Rule of the Commissioner of Education.”  As is indicated in the Introduction to this publication, our work in implementing a standards-based education system in Maine represents “…the product of literally thousands of citizens, all committed to serving the best interest of our students, dating back to the late 1980’s, and the early conversations about “A Common Core of Learning.”

We can be very proud that Maine’s education efforts are recognized nationally, and that the citizens of Maine support high standards for, and investments in, preparing young people for the future.

Chapter 125 and Chapter 127 have been published in this document to assist administrators in leading their programs and guiding school board members in their governance roles.  We are sending a copy for each school board member and each administrator in every school system, along with a few extra copies for you to distribute to other educators and constituents.

For the cost of shipping and handling, additional copies are available.
