SUBJECT: Deadline for Qualified Zone
Academy Bonds Applications, Capital Asset Management Software Training,
and Maine School Facilities Maintenance
Plan
I am pleased to announce the following opportunities
which may be of interest and useful to you and your staff regarding school
facilities.
- Applications for the
current round of Federal Qualified Zone Academy Bonds (QZAB) will close on
August 1, 2002. Applications can be obtained from the Department web site
at www.maine.gov/education/const and information about QZAB’s can be
obtained from: http://www.edfacilities.org/ or at
http://www.ed.gov/pubs/fixschools/index.html
.
- Training workshops for
the Capital Asset Management (CAM) software that the State is supplying to
districts to aid in managing school buildings is continuing through the
summer. Sessions are planned for August 6-7, 2002 in Belfast, September
(date tba) in Presque Isle, and October 1-2, 2002 in Auburn, with
additional sessions added in response to demand for training . Please
contact Jay Readinger at jay.readinger@state.me.us. if
you are interested in CAM training for yourself or your staff.
- The Maine School
Facilities Maintenance Plan (MeSFMP) draft is now posted on the Department
web site at www.maine.gov/education/const/fmthome.htm
. The five sections of the Plan consist of a listing of the various tasks
and statutory requirements necessary to care for school buildings. This
list is being converted to a format that will enable you to comply with
the electronic reporting requirement (20-A MRSA Section 15918) on your
progress toward meeting the standards contained in the Plan. The
Department anticipates requesting responses to the MeSFMP before the end
of the calendar year.
