RE: Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Fees and Test Preparation Materials
Through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the Maine Department of Education and the College Board are working together to cover the entire AP exam fee for low-income students and to provide AP students access to high quality test preparation materials. The following are summaries of these two opportunities available at no cost to all schools in Maine.
1.) Advanced
Placement Exam Fee Payment
The Maine Department of Education has contracted with the College Board to cover the balance of the test fee for any low-income student included on the ETS test fee reduction request form that your school completes when you order the AP exams. The College Board will bill the Maine Department of Education directly. This is a change from the past two years where you submitted requests to the Department of Education and we reimbursed you. This year, neither students who are receiving the College Board fee waiver nor any schools will need to pay the partial fee in advance. Instead, we are making this a one-step process for you this year.
2.) Test
Preparation Materials
In order to help students prepare for the AP exams, the Maine Department of Education and the College Board are making CD ROMs available to all AP teachers at no cost. The CDs are available in the subjects listed on the attached form. Please submit the attached order form by March 15, 2002 to indicate the CD ROMs that you would like. You must have an AP course in the subject in order to request the CDs. If you do not teach an AP course and would like to order the CD, you may order directly from the College Board at www.collegeboard.com. Each CD has a site license for 50 students.
If you would like to purchase different AP test preparation materials, you may still apply through the Advanced Placement Incentive Program application. If you would like an application, please contact Nancy Lamontagne at 624-6822 or by email at nancy.a.lamontagne@state.me.us.
