Re: Proposed Rules for Medication Administration in the School Setting.

The Commissioner of the Maine Department of Education proposes major substantive rule changes for the Administration of Medication in a School Setting as directed by 20-A MRSA § 254 (5). A copy of the proposed rules is available on the Department’s web page at www.maine.gov/education/rulechanges.htm.
The purpose of the rule for Administration of Medication in a School Setting is to require that all unlicensed school personnel who administer medications in a school setting receive training by the Department of Education, or by a certified school nurse, using curriculum approved by the Department. The rule also provides guidance in the establishment of school policy for the administration of medications. This rule applies to public and approved private schools.
A public hearing will be held on the proposed rule as follows:
Friday, December 7, 2001, 10:00 to 11:30 AM in Room 107, Burton Cross State Office Building, Augusta.

until Tuesday, December 18, 2001.
