INFORMATIONAL LETTER NO. 61
POLICY CODE: JLDB
TO: All Superintendents, Principals, and Student Assistance Team Coordinators
FROM: J. Duke Albanese, Commissioner
SUBJECT: Student Assistance Team Unit Initial Team Trainings
I am pleased to inform you that the Maine Department of Education is continuing to offer training for the implementation of Student Assistance Teams. This program is funded by a United States Department of Education IDEA Grant. Our goal is to ensure that a Student Assistance Team is in place in every Maine school which desires this program.
The summer training schedule has been adopted to offer school personnel an opportunity to participate at times that do not interrupt the school schedule. This training is limited in the number of participants who can attend, and openings will be filled in the order in which registration forms are returned. There is no registration fee for these workshops, and the Department of Education provides lunch and breaks for both days. However, the Department of Education DOES NOT cover the cost of travel, substitutes, overnight accommodations, or meals outside of the workshop timeframe in conjunction with these workshops.
PLEASE NOTE: In order to use our training budget to provide the most benefit to schools, it is important that we prepare our facilities for an exact count of participants. Therefore, we ask that teams notify us five working days prior to any training for which they are registered but cannot attend. Also, in order to ensure that each participant receives a confirmation letter and agenda, please attach a list of your team members with their summer addresses and phone numbers.
The following pages contain background information on the Student Assistance Team process and a registration form for the summer training. If you have any questions about this training, contact Ann Marin at the Student Assistance Team Unit at (207) 624-6680. I wish you a successful conclusion to the current school year and a restful and revitalizing summer vacation.
