Re: Comprehensive School Reform Grant Application Deadline Extended
Date: January 16, 2001
The deadline for Comprehensive School Reform (CSRD) applications has been extended from January 31, 2001 to February 28, 2001, due to an announced increase in the CSRD budget last week by the United States Department of Education.
On January 11, 2001 I received the exciting news that our CSRD budget has been increased for FY 2001. This means that the Center for Inquiry on Secondary Education now has the resources to fund up to 19 new schools through this program. (Prior to last week's announcement, we had anticipated receiving funds for six new secondary schools.) Currently, there are 11 high schools involved in their second year of the CSRD program. Schools selected to participate in CSRD receive $50,000 per year for up to three years to implement the Core Principles and Core Practices of Promising Futures.
It is our intention that the extension of the application deadline will encourage more schools to apply for the CSRD program. Applications will be due by 5:00 p.m. on February 28, 2001. Schools will be notified about the status of their application by March 15, 2001. Award decisions will be made by April 6, 2001. For further information please contact Susan Johnson at the Maine Department of Education, 23 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333, firstname.lastname@example.org or (207) 624-6630.
A grant writing workshop will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2001 at the Best Western Inn, Waterville, ME from 9:00 - 2:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 per person. Please contact Kathy Keddy at the Maine Department of Education, email@example.com or (207) 624-6629 to make a reservation.
