RE: Advanced Placement (AP) Incentive Program Administrators’ Workshop
On February 8, 2001 the Maine Department of Education and the New England Office of the College Board will host a workshop focused on the Advanced Placement program. The workshop will be of special interest for district level administrators, building principals, counselors and AP coordinators. It will feature a thorough discussion of the Advanced Placement program, addressing such questions as: What is AP? Who should take AP courses? What can schools do to promote strong AP programs? How can schools develop appropriate AP curricula, including vertical teaming of teachers? How can AP be successfully offered in schools that have block scheduling and other extended instructional time approaches to the delivery of curriculum?
There will also be a presentation and discussion of financial and instructional resources available to support AP courses and instruction through workshops and summer institutes. Financial support is available through the Advanced Placement Incentive Program provided by a grant from the US Department of Education to the Maine Department of Education. Information about new services and products such as CD-ROMS, satellite delivered AP Test Development Committee conferences, and on-line information from the College Board will also be presented. There will be general sessions and breakout sessions providing for discussion and small group meetings for role- and experience- alike groups.
The workshop will begin with coffee at 8:30 AM and end by 3:00 PM. Lunch will be provided. The workshop will be held at the Maine Principals’ Association Professional Development Center in Augusta. If you have any questions or need a map or directions, please contact Wanda Monthey at 624-6831 or at email@example.com.
