RE:                   Statewide Workshop Days  

 

For many years Maine had two statewide workshop days each calendar year for teachers. This worked well for establishing training for the separate disciplines and allowing time for speakers, content matter experts or consultants to work with large groups of teachers at one time in one subject matter area. (This would also be an ideal time to work collaboratively on the content areas of the Maine Learning Results.)

 

            I have been asked by several groups to reactivate those common workshop days to permit the scheduling of statewide professional development activities. Therefore, I am declaring the third Friday of April and of October beginning in 2001 as statewide workshop days and I would urge you to schedule these days as you establish your calendars.
