NGA Center for Best Practices

 

The following are activities/initiatives supported by NGA Funds, as well as state matched Funds. As we progress forward with each activity/initiative, we will provide you with more information.

 

Academic Integration: Develop a statewide engagement strategy for CTE Centers and High Schools to engage in a series of structured conversations in each of the twenty-seven regions. The focus on adolescent literacy has been established by CTE leadership as the leverage strategy for expanding academic integration.

 

Adolescent Literacy: Establish an Adolescent Literacy Framework, with a self assessment tool for determining resource capacity, statewide literacy assessment tool, an action planning guide to develop a school-wide literacy plan to be included in a district's Comprehensive Educational Plan. The Adolescent Literacy Framework, tools and materials will be disseminated through regional structures.

 

Early College : Expand upon the initial work to establish a statewide Early College network of the Community College and the University System. Also to provide pilot funding for each of the community colleges/university campuses to provide a structure and support system to target academic able/low aspiration students in low performing schools as the initial priority.

 

ME Readiness Campaign: Develop and implement a statewide media / public relations campaign to support the the need to ensure that every student has the right to be college ready and prepared for the 21st century workplace.  Contract with the Maine Coalition for Excellence in partnership with the Compact for Higher Education. 

 

Time & Learning:Conduct an analysis of the current allocation of teacher time and student time through a survey of all high schools.  The survey will be a component of the local needs assessment required from all schools prior to the two-day on-site visits.

 

Statewide Engagement: Develop and implement a statewide media/public relations campaign to support the need to ensure that every student has the right to be college ready and prepared for the 21st century workplace. In collaboration with the Maine Coalition for Excellence and the ME Compact for Higher Education.

 

Technical Assistance to the SEA (State Education Agency): Obtain consultant services to assist the Department of Education in developing an agreed upon understanding of the implications in the establishment of college ready standards in common with the revision of Maine's Learning Results. Obtain consultant services to develop tools that enable the District Review Teams the ability to determine through accountability the opportunities for student learning for all students to meet the expectations of the Learning Results.
