For Parents, Guardians, and Guidance Counselors

The price of education after high school can be a lot these days. With apprenticeship programs, apprentices get paid to learn, earn credentials and certification that are recognized nationally, learn from experts in their field, and start working at their career as soon as they start the program. No educational debt, no school loans to weigh them down. In fact, apprentice graduates earn $300,000+ more over their lifetime than their peers who didn’t go through an apprenticeship. It’s a pretty great deal.

“The Apprenticeship Program gave me a real sense of what the industry was going to be, not what you see on TV on the Food Network. It doesn’t matter how good the college is, how great your instructors are, the classroom environment will never replace the real world environment.”

Steven Learned, Executive Chef, Sunday River Grand Summit Hotel

The Pre-Apprenticeship Program

The Pre-Apprenticeship is a pathway for high school juniors and seniors, aged 16 or older, to enter into apprenticeship training. As a Pre-Apprentice, you get first-hand experience in occupation and can carry up to 1,000 hours of on-the-job experience into your registered apprenticeship program upon graduation. Try a few different fields and see what you like before you commit to a specific apprenticeship.

Find pre-apprenticeship programs

Consider a pre-apprenticeship if you’re:

  • A full-time high school student
  • In good academic standing
  • Able to work part-time for a registered employer/sponsor
  • Intending on becoming a full-time registered apprentice after graduation
