Meyer named House chair of Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee

AUGUSTA – Rep. Michele Meyer, D-Eliot, will continue to serve as House chair of the Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee. She has served on the committee for the past six years, the past four as chair.

Rep. Meyer

“Our work on the Health and Human Services Committee touches the lives of virtually every Mainer, regardless of age or background,” said Meyer, who is a registered nurse. “During my time on the committee, I have been honored to collaborate with so many people who share my commitment to ensuring that everyone in our state is healthy, safe and able to access support when they need it. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue that work over the next two years.”

Meyer was appointed to lead the committee by House Speaker Ryan Fecteau. The Health and Human Services Committee oversees policy regarding MaineCare, mental and behavioral health services, home- and community-based support services, child care, social safety net programs, hospitals and nursing facilities, among many other issues.

Meyer is serving her fourth term in the Maine House. She represents Eliot and parts of both Kittery and South Berwick.
