Project Updates
June - October 2024
Throughout the past several months crews have completed all the earthwork, all the base/shim pavement layers on the project and completed the final surface pavement layer on the first half of the project between Irving’s and the Stillwater River bridge. Crews have also completed installing all the curbing on the project and graded the sidewalks for pavement to be placed soon. Crews also installed and activated the new traffic signals at the Bennoch Road and College Avenue intersections. Over the next several weeks crews will complete the surface paving on the project, install the permanent signs and pave the sidewalks and driveways.
May 2024
Throughout May crews have continued installing all underdrain along with catch basins. Crews have continued excavation operations on driveways and placing ASCG back in. Crews finished installing 12” waterline on the first half of the project. Other work involved installing the mast arm foundations for light poles and conduit across Stillwater Ave. to junction boxes and finished placing conduit around Bennoch Road intersection.
April 2024
Throughout April crews have worked on the installation of drainage systems, and boxing out shoulders and driveways. Crews worked on installing temporary water.
March 2024
Throughout March, Reed & Reed and subcontractors completed the installation of piers 8 and 9, along with the superstructure steel for spans 7, 8, and 9, further advancing the construction process. Temporary decking was installed on these spans to facilitate ongoing work. Additionally, they commenced the installation of superstructure steel for the final span, span 10. Furthermore, underwater bolt torquing and welding operations began to finalize pier cross frame installations.
February 2024
Throughout February crews from Gunnett Tree and Landscaping worked on tree clearing. Gordon crews worked on the construction entrance at the project laydown yard.
January 2024
Crews working through January completed installation of Pier 7. An additional pile was installed adjacent to the battered pile to ensure that load capacity of the pier could be achieved. Completed installation of superstructure steel and temporary decking for spans 5 and 6.
November 2023
Work throughout November involved removing drilling frame from pier 3 and began pier cap installation. Continued installing sheet and soldier piles for support of excavation at abutment 1 and Installed the precast abutment slabs for abutment 2. Workers began installing subgrade material at abutment 2. Removed an existing fire hydrant and began installing temporary water main.
October 2023
The installation of the first span of superstructure steel, along with the placement of temporary timber crane mats for decking, was completed. In preparation for the return of HB Fleming, the pipe pile drilling frame was extended to the second pier location. Additionally, a second crane was mobilized to initiate the sheet cell installation for the northern temporary abutment, and the drilling of pier 2 pipe piles was successfully completed. Progress extended to other areas, including the driving of sheet piles for the Support of Excavation (SOE) on the northern approach, the commencement of the installation of soldier piles and dead-men for the SOE wall, the successful installation of span 2 structural steel and temporary decking, and the continuation of the installation of sheet piles and soldier piles on the northern approach. The project also accomplished the installation of pier 3 pipe piles and completed sheet pile and soldier pile installation on the northern approach. The installation of sheet pile and soldier pile on the southern approach has begun. 3 Phase has been onsite setting poles & transferring wires.
September 2023
Thornton Construction removed two houses on Stillwater Avenue & Old Mill Road. Gary Pomeroy & Gunnett Tree and Landscaping removed single trees on Stillwater Avenue in preparation of new utility pole placement. Subcontractor H.B. Fleming has mobilized and assembled their reverse circulation drill chain to begin the installation of the 24-inch pipe piles for the temporary pier bents. Additionally, Reed & Reed and H.B Fleming have constructed and installed the pier bent template to guide the position of the pile piles. The pipe piles were cut to elevation and the pile template was removed.
August 2023
Reed & Reed is working on base gravel installation for the temporary roadway that will carry US Route 1 traffic through the area during construction. The temporary roadway will be located to the east of existing US Route 1. They are also working on constructing temporary deck panels for the temporary bridges included within the temporary roadway. Reed & Reed mobilized a crane to the project site to begin driving pile for the substructure of the temporary Pleasant Cove Bridge located through the ponded area near George Wright Rd.
