USDA Equipment Grant 2014

 

Food Service Equipment Grant Criteria:

  • Cost must be $5,000 or greater per piece of equipment.
  • Priority must be given to schools exceeding 50% or more free and reduced eligibility.
  • Funding requests may include installation and transportation.
  • Finding is intended only for lunch program equipment. However, other National School Lunch programs can benefit from it.
  • The school is ineligible if the school received Federal equipment assistance funds previously (eg ARRA and the FY 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Act). Previously Awarded Schools .pdf

Time Line and Deadlines

  • Application and application supplement page returned by close of business April 30, 2014.
  • DOE to make awards by June 1, 2014.
  • Award letters out June 1, 2014.
  • SFA Equipment grant agreement returned to DOE before payment.
  • August 1st all paperwork / claims/agreement received by DOE.
  • All payments made by October 15, 2014.
  • DOE submits final report to the USDA.

Questions:

Q. Does the piece of equipment need to cost $5000?

A. Yes equipment is defined as $5,000 per unit.

Q. Can I bundle equipment to obtain the $5000 minimum?

A. No, it must be per unit.

Q.  Is there a list of 50% or more free and reduced eligible schools somewhere?

A. We use the current ED534 report that is on line.  This information is reported to us from the local district.

Q.  Can I ask for an extension of filing the application?

A.  No, the timeline is so tight the flexibility has been removed.
