Maps Showing Suggested Regional School Units Model

The following maps are based on the model for regional school units which was developed by the Department of Education at the request of legislative leaders according to the proposal by the subcommittee on education of the Legislature’s Appropriations Committee.  This model is subject to change as the proposed legislation changes.

Please see the separate document, “List of Suggested RSU’s” for details on each unit’s member municipalities and student population.”

Note:  While island school units and Maine Indian Education units retain their current structure because of their geographic uniqueness and programmatic necessity, for the purposes of counting new school units, this model counts the proposal by island communities to form a consortium as one unit and Maine Indian Education as one unit.  Education in the Unorganized Territories remains unchanged by the language of the proposal and is not addressed in this model.

Known errors: Some maps show Unorganized Territories in color – that is an error; these territories are not part of the Regional School Units.  Any additional errors will be noted here.

Map 7 and Statewide maps have been updated to reflect error in numbering RSU 32 and RSU 33.
