Program Description– written by Fiddlehead Center for the Arts

Healthy Opportunity More Enrichment (HOME) has a successful history of partnering with MSAD#15 and parents to meet student’s academic needs in fun, interactive environments that help build student confidence and help them to succeed in school.

We focus on staff professionalism, proper use of instructional tools, and communication of program goals with parents and schools. Based on pre-testing, HOME identifies skills deficiencies in each student, and creates an individualized Learning Plan based on these problem areas. Our goal is to work very closely with the District, the parent, and the student so as to serve as a support system in a safe and caring environment above and beyond the classroom.

We provide a 30-hour minimum program. We use Maine State Certified teachers from the MSAD#15 District to tutor HOME students in reading and math using materials that are aligned with the Maine Learning results and MSAD#15 curriculum.

Our track record shows:

  • over 2000 hours of after-school programming has occurred within the MSAD#15 district
  • we served 180 youth last year, 40% of the school district’s grades 6-8 population
  • we have reached 60% of the youths eligible for financial aid, 60% of these youth increased their academic and/or conduct grades
  • teachers in grades 6-8 noted that 76% of regular attendees had academic performance that was satisfactory or better

Additionally, Fiddlehead center for the Arts – where HOME tutoring is being housed, offers after-school enrichment programs within the disciplines of Science, Theater, Foreign Language and the Visual Arts. All subjects reported through the Maine Learning results that aid in student development. Either before or after their 40 minute – 1:3 ratio tutoring session, a student may choose up to three after school programs offered Monday-Friday at Fiddlehead Center for the Arts – each semester. This complete package will add value to this already high impact program – showing results of improved grades in reading and math while having fun!
