Program Description – written by CompassLearning, Inc

CompassLearning Odyssey is a K-8 Internet-delivered management, assessment, and curriculum program for use by LEAs or other SES providers. The program is accessible anywhere there is a computer with appropriate Internet access.

The CompassLearning solution provides a solid curriculum with assessment that is aligned to the Maine Learning Results. The program follows a pre-test, learning path, post-test format; is accessible to students at anytime; and equally serves students of all incomes and ethnicity. Odyssey provides a wealth of resources, teacher guides, implementation guides, planning guides training materials, offline materials, and blackline masters to supplement the online learning activities.

CompassLearning Odyssey is an online program and provides no staffing, facility, transportation, or equipment. If the program will be accessed at school, school personnel will be trained by CompassLearning Education Consultants (EC) to understand the functionally of the software, make and change student curriculum and assessment assignments, monitor student progress, and use the offline resources. If the LEA or other partner intends for students to use the program from home, CompassLearning ECs will provide training for parents (through scheduled group training sessions) or for LEA or other partner personnel who can then provide training to parents. If students are working remotely, they will be monitored by LEA or other partner personnel. Training for LEA or other partner personnel monitoring home use will include creating schedules for running student progress reports and making regular contact with parents and students.

The CompassLearning Manager provides reports so that student progress is monitored regularly. The reports are easy to read and understand and provide valuable information about student mastery, progress, and achievement. Using these reports, teachers, parents, and student can evaluate goals and benchmarks, schedule periodic progress checks, and monitor and adjust the learning path so each student's program can best meet his needs.

CompassLearning has a proven track record of positively impacting student outcomes through the utilization of technology based online assessment and instruction. The CompassLearning implementation in the State of West Virginia went through a 10-year longitudinal study conducted by the Miliken Exchange, which demonstrated that the program positively impacted student academic success as demonstrated by the state assessment gains.
