01 Transfer to a public school in the same local education agency-- A student who transfers to a public school that is located within the administrative boundaries of the same local education agency. NO NO
02 Transfer to a public school in a different local education agency in the same state-- A student who transfers to a public school that is not located within the administrative boundaries of the same local education agency but is in the same state. If the student is exited with this code and the following year there is no enrollment for them, the student will be considered a dropout unless you can also provide a signed "Request for Records" from the school that requested records. NO w/conditions NO
03 Transfer to a public school in a different state-- A student who transfers to a public school that is located in another state or to a United States overseas dependents school. NO NO
04 Transfer to a private, non-religiously-affiliated school in the same local education agency-- A student who transfers to a private school (operated by a non-governmental, non-religious group or organization) that is located within the administrative boundaries of the same local education agency. NO NO
05 Transfer to a private, non-religiously-affiliated school in a different local education agency in the same state-- A student who transfers to a private school (operated by a non-governmental, non-religious group or organization) that is not located within the administrative boundaries of the same local education agency but is in the same state. NO NO
06 Transfer to a private, non-religiously-affiliated school in a different state-- A student who transfers to a private school (operated by a non-governmental, non-religious group or organization) that is located in another state, including hospital teaching programs. NO NO
07 Transfer to a private, religiously-affiliated school in the same local education agency-- A student who transfers to a private school (affiliated with and operated by a non-governmental, religious group or organization) that is located within the administrative boundaries of the same local education agency. NO NO
08 Transfer to a private, religiously-affiliated school in a different local education agency in the same state-- A student who transfers to a private school (affiliated with and operated by a non-governmental, religious group or organization) that is not located within the administrative boundaries of the local education agency. NO NO
09 Transfer to a private, religiously-affiliated school in a different state-- A student who transfers to a private school (affiliated with and operated by a non-governmental, religious group or organization) that is located in another state, including hospital teaching programs. NO NO
10 Transfer to a school outside of the country-- A student who transfers to a school outside the country that is not a United States overseas dependents school (includes private and public school systems). NO NO
11 Transfer to an institution-- A student who transfers to an institution that has an educational program. This includes mental health institutions, correctional institutions, juvenile service agencies, care shelters, and detention facilities. NO NO
12 Transfer to a charter school-- A student who transfers to an institution designated as a charter school. NO NO
13 Transfer to home schooling-- A student who transfers to a period of instruction in a home environment for reasons other than health. Note: If you state a student has transfered to Home Schooling AND the Maine DOE has not received a "Letter of Intent to Home School" by the parent or guardian, the student will then be considered a dropout. NO w/conditions NO
14 Matriculation to another school-- A student who enters another school after successful completion and promotion from the highest instructional level of the current school to the next higher level. Please note that matriculation (not graduation) should be used for students who complete the highest level of instruction at their current school (e.g., elementary or middle school. NO NO
15 Graduated with regular, advanced, International Baccalaureate, or other type of diploma-- A student who has received a regular high school diploma upon completion of state and local requirements for both coursework and assessment or a high school diploma from a program other than the regular school program. PLEASE DO NOT choose this exit type indicating that the student has graduated if they are completing the highest grade at the school and moving on to the next sequential school (example: grade 8 to high school).  NO YES
16 Completed school with other credentials-- A student who has received a certificate of completion or attendance in lieu of a high school diploma. Also, a student who has satisfactorily obtained a G.E.D. NO YES
17 Death-- A student whose membership is terminated because he or she died during or between regular school sessions. NO NO
18 Illness-- A student who left school for an indefinite period of time because of a physical, school-approved illness. This determination is valid for the current school year. If a student is exited with this code and does not return the following year, they will be a dropout. If it is determined that the student still can not return due to illness, they must be enrolled for one day and exited again with this code to avoid being classified a dropout. NO w/conditions NO
19 Expulsion-- A student who left school involuntarily due to an expulsion approved by appropriate school authorities. This determination is valid for the length of the expulsion. Once the expulsion period is over, if the student does not return, they will be considered a dropout at that time. NO w/conditions NO
20 Reached maximum age for services-- A student who left school because he or she has reached the maximum age to receive instructional services allowed by federal, state, or local laws. NO NO
21 Discontinued schooling-- A student who stops attending school for reasons and a specified length of time considered by the state or district to constitute "dropping out." YES NO
22 (Not a valid option)    
23 Transfer to GED program-- A student who has transferred to a GED program prior to the completion of his or her secondary education. YES NO
24 Transfer to a postsecondary education A student who has transferred to an accredited postsecondary institution prior to his or her graduation from high school. NO NO
25 Moved, not known to be continuing-- A student who has moved outside his or her attendance area and is not known to be continuing his or her elementary or secondary education. YES NO
