Soliya Connect Program
University of Maine at Machias
Promising Approaches
- (2) Incorporate discussion of current national and international issues and events.
- (6) Encourage students' participation in forums that model democratic processes.
- (7) Encourage and support interactions across cultural differences.
Overview
The University of Maine at Machias is one of only a few select United States colleges participating in a technology bridge connecting our students with college students in the Middle East. The Soliya Connect
Program is a unique cross-cultural education program that enables college
students in the US and predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East to
collaboratively explore the relationship between the American and Muslim world
with the aim of improving intercultural awareness and understanding.
Participating students see and hear each other using the latest in
videoconferencing and on-line collaborative technology that facilitates rich
personal interactions in small group settings.
