Definitions of Civic Engagement

From the Campaign for the Civic Mission of Schools:

Full participation in democracy in which all citizens understand, appreciate, and engage actively in civic and political life. It is the application of civic skills, knowledge, and attitudes which enables them to become responsible citizens.

From the America Youth Policy Forum 2005 Report:

The practice of becoming effective in learning the process of how the community works. Education while acting as a citizen.
