TO: Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, Principals, Career and Technical Education Center Directors, Curriculum Coordinators, Guidance Counselors, School Health Coordinators and All Classroom Educators FROM: Susan A. Gendron, Commissioner of Education DATE: October 11, 2006 SUBJECT: Maine Learning Results Review Information Sessions and Public Hearing
As noted in Informational Letter 27, the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Education Association, and the University of Maine System are co-sponsoring a series of information sessions about the proposed revised Maine Learning Results during the month of October. Sessions have already been hosted at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University of Maine at Fort Kent and the University of Southern Maine Gorham campus. There are three remaining opportunities for any interested individuals to attend information sessions at the three locations listed below. The sessions at University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Maine at Orono will start at 5:00 PM and end by 7:00 PM. The session at the University of Maine at Machias will start at 6:00 PM and end by 8:00 PM.
This public hearing will be an opportunity for the Department to collect public comment on the Maine Department of Education Regulation 131 – The Maine Federal, State and Local Accountability Standards. There will be no presentation by the Department of Education or question and answer period. In addition, written comments on Maine Department of Education Regulation 131 - The Maine Federal, State and Local Accountability Standards may be submitted to the Department of Education by filling out and returning the online feedback form available at http://www.maine.gov/education/lres/review/revised_mlr_standards.htm For further information please contact Anita Bernhardt at the Maine Department of Education, 624-6835 or anita.bernhardt@maine.gov.
