SUBJECT:       Critical Period of Time to Provide Feedback on Proposed Revised Maine Learning Results is Nearing Close

The remaining days of May are a critical time for collecting feedback on the proposed revised standards of the Maine Learning Results.  It is essential that all educators have the opportunity to provide feedback on the standards through the online survey.   To date, not all educators have been informed about the review and the chance to provide input.  The online feedback will inform the final draft of the standards.    At the recent MEA Teacher Forums with Governor Baldacci and Commissioner Gendron, some district leaders shared that they have used this as an opportunity for professional development and have devoted staff meeting time to complete the survey.

The Department of Education urges all administrators to please assist in disbursing this information and facilitating the feedback process. Please share this information immediately with all educators in your district.  The online surveys for all of the eight content areas will close on May 31, 2006.  This extends the closing date for Mathematics, English Language Arts and Health and Physical Education from the previous closing date of May 5, 2006.

On May 22, 23, 24, and 25 the Maine Department of Education, the Education Departments of 4 University Campuses, and the Maine Education Association are co-hosting a series of informational session about the proposed revisions to Maine’s Learning Results. These sessions are open to all educators.  For more information contact Ellen Holmes at 622-4418, ext. 313 or at .
