RE:                  New England Compact Research Project Information

Over the past three years, Maine has partnered with the States of Rhode Island, Vermont, and New Hampshire to explore research, standards development, and assessment work where such collaboration adds value to State efforts.  The Compact’s Enhanced Assessment project has secured extended federal financial support, and will be embarking on a new research project in the coming year.  The new project is designed to help improve student performance on the MEA, and schools in your district are invited to participate.

Briefly:

If you need more information, refer to the attached FAQ for details of the project or visit http://www.bc.edu/tmas.  For other questions on Phase One, contact Lisa Famularo at lisa.famularo@bc.edu, (617) 552-6241; for Phase Two, contact Sue Bechard at
sbechard@measuredprogress.org, (603) 767-6898.

We will be contacting the principals in your district in the next few days to inform them of the project and to ask for their assistance in inviting teachers to participate.  We look forward to working with your district on this important research project.  I believe that this type of research will truly enhance our understanding of how our assessment practices can best support our vision of student learning.  Please consider participating in the project.
