RE;                  Reallocation of Title IIA Excess Funds

Excess funds in the Title IIA Improving Teacher Quality State Grants result from a number of situations.  Among them are the following:

The State Education Agency reallocates excess Title IIA funds to LEAs with the greatest need for such funds for the purpose of addressing inequities inherent in, or mitigating hardships caused by, the application of the allocation provisions.  LEAs meeting the following criteria due to factors such as population shifts and changing economic circumstances will be considered those in greatest need:

The State of Maine now has excess funds available for redistribution.  To apply for a portion of these funds, you must send a letter of intent to apply by November 30, 2005.  Along with this letter you must submit documentation to show your LEA meets one of the above criteria and your proposed use of the funds. It is important for you to include information on how the proposed use of the funds will impact the areas of need.   Allowable uses of these funds are the same as allowable uses for all Title IIA funds.

By January 1, 2006 your district will be notified as to whether reallocated funds are being reserved for your use.  It will then be necessary to submit a more formal Application for Reallocated Funds within 30 days.  This application along with the Title IIA Reallocation Procedures can be found at
