RE: Local Assessment System Implementation Study All Schools Survey
Once again, we are distributing a survey designed to gather data related to the implementation of Local Assessment Systems in Maine school administrative units. Collecting this data from all schools is part of the design of our ongoing Local Assessment System Implementation Study (LASIS) that continues to examine how a sample of school districts is responding to the challenges of developing a Local Assessment System as a fundamental part of the overall system of Learning Results.
Enclosed is a survey that is designed to gather data related to the current status of the implementation of Local Assessment Systems. In particular, the survey asks detailed questions about the status of the assessments for English language arts and mathematics on pages 1 and 2. As you know, my proposed modifications to the implementation of the system of Learning Results include focusing on these two content areas for the graduating class of 2008.
The results of this survey will be used to inform policymaking and to develop appropriate services and strategies to support districts. It is critical that we know what progress SAUs have made in developing and implementing Local Assessment Systems to better understand the challenges schools face in trying to carry out this work.
In order to have comprehensive information from all of the SAUs in Maine, we ask for your full cooperation in completing and returning the enclosed survey.
(This letter and survey are being sent by regular mail.)
